Rainy Day Music
I purchased an album online quite some time ago. I literally spent days trying to find a copy of it. The album was one of only two original releases from a short-lived bubble gum outfit by the name of Moonpools and Caterpillars. Yes, for those of you familiar with them, their music was the aural equivalent of pixie-sticks. Perhaps that’s why I liked them so much.
You see, I found Moonpools at a time when I was heavily rotating music that had the comestible equivalent of liverwurst, and some happy music was a life-save.
When the anticipated second album finally arrived, however, I simply couldn’t bring myself to open it. A band’s final album can be a sad thing in its own right, and so I vowed to save it for a rainy day—somehow prolonging the days of the defunct band in the meantime.
That was six years ago.
I opened the album two days ago in the wake of my having pushed a half-dozen red roses down the garbage disposal and then subsequently rearranging my house (and pinky-finger of my right hand). Apparently a starving student’s half-dozen roses and heart-felt proclamation just can’t say what a girl’s new flame’s dozen can. This crushing development would have at least been bearable, if only said girl hadn’t thought to inform me that she had, in fact, once reciprocated my feelings for her, but just not anymore.
And so I lay down and spin the first track of Moonpool’s “12 Songs” only to be confronted with:
“Well big deal if you’re feeling bad now, you had a chance, but you got a little lazy.”
When it rains…
